London: The general election of the British House of Parliament ended on Thursday, 4 July.
Four British Bengalis won again in the British Parliamentary elections and brightened the face of Bengalis and Bangladesh in the multi-ethnic society. They are Rushanara Ali, who won for the fifth time. Tulip Siddiq, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu, won for the fourth time, the total number of votes was 23432. She won by a considerable margin over the nearest candidate. Dr Rupa Haq won for the fourth time. Afsana Begum won the second term. Labour Party’s Apsana Begum got a total of 18535 votes, while her closest rival, Green Party’s Nathalie Silvia Binit, got 5975 votes.
Excitingly, Rushanara Ali, Tulip Siddiq, and Rupa Haque, all of whom have previously served as shadow ministers, are likely to assume ministerial roles in the upcoming cabinet. This prospect brings a sense of hope and optimism for the future.
Rushanara Ali, a seasoned politician, has been elected as an MP from the Labor Party for the fifth consecutive time in the British general election. Her victory in the Bethnal Green and Bow seat in Tower Hamlets is a testament to her unwavering dedication. Rushanara Ali is the first MP of Bangladeshi origin in the UK Parliament, a fact that instils confidence and reassurance in the Bengali community. After the election results were announced on Friday, July 5, Rushanara Ali was elected with 15,896 votes, and his nearest independent candidate got 14,207 votes. She was previously elected MP for four consecutive terms since 2010 in the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in London’s Bengali-dominated Tower Hamlets. Rushanara Ali served as Shadow Minister for International Development since 2010 and was appointed Shadow Minister of State for Education in October 2013.
