Kolkata Journalist Sharmila Maiti Received by UK Bangla Reporters Unity in London

Londonঃ Prominent Kolkata-based journalist Sharmila Maiti was warmly received by members of the UK Bangla Reporters Unity during her visit to the UK last Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The event was held at a restaurant in East London and chaired by Ansar Ahmed Ullah, President of UK Bangla Reporters Unity.
The reception was conducted by Jubayer Ahmed, General Secretary of the organisation. Attendees included Muhammad Shahed Rahman, founder President of UK Bangla Reporters Unity, Vice President Sajidur Rahman and Sharmila’s fan Priyanka Gupta, among others.
Azizul Ambiya, Assistant General Secretary of UK Bangla Reporters Unity, introduced Sharmila Maiti, highlighting her esteemed journalism career. Maiti was then presented with flowers, books, and gifts as a symbol of the Unity’s respect and admiration.
The engaging discussion featured participation from notable figures such as Jamal Khan (CEO, 26th Television), Shah Mustafijur Rahman Belal (Editor, Bisshobangla News24), A Rahman Ali (London Correspondent, Habiganj Express), Hefazul Karim Rakib (London Bangla Press Club), journalist Hafsa Islam, Mukul (ATN Bangla UK), poet Asma Matin, Rashia Khan, Sharmila’s sister Sharmista Halder, university friend Abhishek Ghatak, Ashraful Haque, Abdus Sattar and Sanaullah, among others.
Speakers at the reception emphasised strengthening the friendly relationship between West Bengal, Bangladesh, and the UK Bengali community. Notably, Sharmila Maiti is the first Bengali journalist to cross a million subscribers on YouTube and Facebook. She is an entertainment journalist and anchor for Anandabazar Patrika, Anandlok, Times of India, and Gee 24 channel, and has received prestigious awards such as the ‘Aparajita’ award from Anandabazar Group and the Uma Excellence Award from Dubai.
