London: Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq MP marked several significant milestones this month, including opening the UK’s 100th banking hub in Darwen, Lancashire, and hosting a Christmas card competition for local schoolchildren in Parliament.

The new banking hub opened alongside Chancellor Rachel Reeves MP, will serve 10,000 local residents and 150 shops, addressing the impact of bank branch closures. Siddiq, who is spearheading the initiative as City Minister, announced plans to establish 350 such hubs by the end of Parliament.

In her ministerial role, Siddiq participated in key Parliamentary debates on the October Budget, including discussions on the National Insurance Contributions Bill and the Finance Bill. She emphasised the government’s focus on “stability, fairness and sustainability” to improve public services and promote economic growth.

The minister also launched the Financial Inclusion Committee, aiming to develop strategies for universal access to banking services. Her commitment to financial inclusion was further demonstrated through engagement with The Investing and Saving Alliance and discussions with Money and Mental Health charity about improving access to financial services for those with mental health challenges.

The month concluded on a festive note as Siddiq hosted local primary school children for her Christmas card competition. The winning design will be sent to Prime Minister Keir Starmer MP and King Charles.
