London: A UK Charity, Friends of Street Children, Bangladesh, is to announce the publication of the book “The Street is Not a Home” at the Dhaka Lit Fest on 5th January, Bardhoman platform.
This is a unique book because it was created with children from projects run by the Dhaka-based organisation Street Children LEEDO. Funds from the sale of the book will help the work of LEEDO as neither the author, Mike Sherriff, nor the artist, Saif Osmani, are taking royalties from sales. It has been published, without profit, by the UK publisher Bok Bok Books.
The book has been written for children aged nine plus. It is bi-lingual, in English and Bengali. It aims to increase understanding about children who have lived on the streets and build awareness about the difficulties they face, and the fact that they have the same hopes, fears, and ambitions as every child.
The programme at Dhaka Lit Fest will be with the children and will include extracts read from the book, discussion, songs, and drama.
