London: The Commonwealth Secretary-General is set to undertake her first official visit to Bangladesh, in a move expected to deepen cooperation between the South Asian nation and the 56-member organisation.
The visit, scheduled for later this month, will include high-level meetings with senior government figures, civil society representatives and development partners. Discussions are anticipated to focus on climate resilience, trade, youth development and democratic governance — priority areas for both Bangladesh and the wider Commonwealth.
Officials in Dhaka have welcomed the trip, describing it as a significant opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s economic progress and its role in championing climate-vulnerable nations. The Secretary-General is also expected to visit key development sites to observe local initiatives supported through Commonwealth programmes.
The visit comes amid renewed efforts to strengthen collaboration between member states ahead of the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
