Conservative Friends of Bangladesh held an Iftar gathering

London: The Conservative Friends of Bangladesh held its first virtual multi-faith Iftar on Zoom on the 27th of April 2021.The Education Secretary Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP, who fasted for the day, attended as guest speaker. The Education Secretary was joined by his Parliamentary colleagues Paul Scully MP, Minister for London & Small Businesses, Bob Blackman MP and Conservative Party officials.

The Education Secretary spoke about the long-standing relationship between the UK and Bangladesh and commended Bangladesh as an example of being a secular country.

Paul Scully MP spoke about his first visit to Bangladesh and the hospitality the delegates received and the contribution the British Bangladeshi community are making to Britain’s economy in all sectors. Bob Blackman MP also talked about his visit to Bangladesh and reminded members of the support provided by the Conservative Government in the formation of Bangladesh in 1971.

All the MPs who joined the Iftar said that they wish to see the first Bangladeshi Conservative MP in the next Parliament. MPs also thanked Conservative Friends of Bangladesh members for their support in campaigning for both the London Mayoral and West Midland Mayoral Candidates.

The event was Chaired by Mehfuz Ahmed, Chairman, co-hosted by Fajli Bibi, Vice Chairwoman and Cllr James Hockney, General Secretary.

Other notable speakers included Patron Muquim Ahmed, Abdus Hamid, Deputy Chair, Anjenarra Huque, Vice Chairwomen and Md Zulqar Nain, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner. Abdul Mubin recited verses from the holy Quran.

Members in attendance were Sujit Sen, CFoB Treasurer, Moula Miah, Hasan Ali Imam, Sabrina Hossain, Abdul Kadir, Jom Jom Rashid, Helal Choudhury, SMS Azam, Mohammed Nazim Uddin, MD Janal, M Wasi, S M Faisal Kabir and other members.
