Sylhet: Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin Mbe DBA, D. Litt, will serve as the newly appointed Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh to Scotland, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 and under the direction of the Foreign Offices of both Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, as the official representative of the Government of Bangladesh. In this capacity, he will work to protect and promote the interests of citizens residing in Bangladesh and Scotland, as well as to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He will focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, and fostering mutual understanding and goodwill between the people of Bangladesh and Scotland.
Dr. Uddin will support initiatives that enhance engagement between government institutions, the business community and cultural organisations, and enhance economic and diplomatic relations. He will provide support to Bangladeshi nationals living or travelling in Scotland, ensure their welfare and represent their interests where appropriate. In addition, he will promote Bangladesh’s image internationally through community engagement, public diplomacy and participation in government events. Through his leadership and dedication, Dr. Uddin will play a key role in deepening Bangladesh’s global partnership and advancing its national interests in Scotland.
Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin Mbe was born in 1952 to a wealthy family in the village of Nalihuri in Moulvibazar district and migrated to the UK in 1967. As a successful business entrepreneur, he gained immense popularity in Britain, Europe and Bangladesh. He founded award-winning restaurants Baranda, Lancer and Britannia Spice in the Scottish capital Edinburgh.
