First Bangladeshi to receive Gold Medal from American Physicists

London: A Bangladeshi American, Prof Dr M. Saiful Huq, is to receive the 2023 William D. Coolidge Gold Medal Award from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
This award recognises Dr Huq, who has made significant contributions to advancing the field of medical physics scientifically and professionally and has demonstrated leadership skills. It is the highest honour given by the AAPM for a distinguished career in Medical Physics. AAPM has a membership of about 10,000 medical physicists spanning the world with a vision to improve health through Medical Physics and advance medicine through excellence in science education and professional practice of medical physics.
Dr Huq is the first Bangladeshi American to receive this award. This award will be given to him ceremonially at the annual meeting of the AAPM to be held in Houston on 24 July 2023. He was the President of AAPM in 2020 and the chairman of the Board of Directors of AAPM in 2021. With sincere dedication and passion, Dr Huq continues to set the bar very high for the rest of the medical physics community to aspire to.
It can be mentioned that Dr Huq did his BSc (Hons) and MSc in Physics from Dhaka University (1969-1976) and PhD from William & Mary (1977-1984) in the USA and is a Medical Physicist. He had also set up the modern Oncology Unit at CMH in Dhaka.
