Hindu Aid UK relief work in Shalla

London: A UK-based charity Hindu Aid UK donated sewing machines and fishing equipment to the recent victims of communal attacks in Shalla, Sunamganj, to contribute towards their rehabilitation on 27 May 2021.
The charity made cash donations to the victims & less abled people and awarded scholarships to the students. It should be mentioned here that the Hindu community came under attack from fanatics following a Facebook posting by Jhumon Das on 17 March. The relief distribution programme was chaired by Mohammed Oliur Rahman, Acting President of Awami League and attended by UNO Muktadir Hossain, Mr Dipu Ranjan Das, a prospective parliamentary candidate of Shalla, Barrister Dalton Talukdar, social activist Mr Pijush Kuri and Professor Chandan Sarkar of Research and Empowerment Organisation (REO), a charitable organisation based in Bangladesh. All the speakers condemned the attacks and appealed to the people for peaceful co-existence in the community.
The medical camp was headed by Dr Barsha Roy Choudhury, with an attendance of over eighty people. Dr Choudhury was assisted by Pial Chandra Pal and Mr Promoth Talukdar.
Hindu Aid thanked the Shalla police station officer Mr Nur Alam and the local administration for supporting the event.
