National Birth Registration Day 2020 observed in UK

Londonঃ To raise awareness among the Bangladesh expatriates in the UK and Ireland on the significance of registering births, the Mujib Borsho-National Birth Registration Day 2020 was observed at the Bangladesh High Commission in London on Friday 9 October.

Mr Helaluddin Ahmad, Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division, Ministry of LGRD & Co-Operatives, joined the webinar from Dhaka as the chief guest. Special guest at the webinar was Mr Manik Lal Banik, Registrar General of Birth and Death, who also joined from Bangladesh. The webinar was chaired by Saida Muna Tasneem, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Guest speaker panel included leaders of the Bangladeshi-British diaspora, valiant freedom fighters, journalists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, philanthropists, media personalities, community organisers and a cross-section of the expatriate Bangladesh community members from the UK and Ireland. All officers and members of the staff of Bangladesh High Commission, London joined the webinar live from the Mission Chancery.

Eminent leader of Bangladesh community and veteran organiser of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in the UK Mr Sultan Mahmud Shariff, community organiser Mr Syed Shazidur Rahman Faruk; eminent leader Mr Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, freedom fighter and renowned philanthropist Mr Mahmud Hasan MBE, president of Bangladesh Welfare Association Mr Harmuz Ali, entrepreneur and social organiser Mr Ahmed Us Samad Chowdhury, media personality Mrs Urmee Mazher, vice president of the Commonwealth Journalist Association Mr Syed Nahas Pasha, president of Bangladesh Caterers Association Mr M A Munim and Chairperson of Amra Sylhetbashi Mr Ansar Ahmed Ullah also spoke on the occasion.

The webinar was hosted live on Zoom from the Chancery of the Bangladesh High Commission located at Queen’s Gate in Central London.
