Tower Hamlets Labour Mayoral candidate meets UK Bangla Reporters Unity

Londonঃ Sirajul Islam, Labour’s mayoral candidate for the upcoming Tower Hamlets Council elections, held a discussion session with members of the UK Bangla Reporters Unity, a leading organisation representing Bangla-language media in Britain.

The meeting took place on 13 November 2025 at the Pure Chai Café conference hall in Whitechapel, East London. It was chaired by the organisation’s president, Sajidur Rahman, while General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Miru and journalist Suez Miah jointly conducted the session.

During the event, Sirajul Islam responded to a range of questions from journalists. He emphasised his ambition to restore Tower Hamlets’ heritage and create a peaceful, community-focused borough.
“I want to work together with all of you to bring back a harmonious Tower Hamlets,” he said. “This exchange is part of seeking support from the media and the wider community. I firmly believe that with your support, we can overcome all obstacles and achieve our goals.”

A number of prominent Labour figures and community leaders attended the discussion, including former Tower Hamlets Council Leader Helal Uddin Abbas, former Speakers Khalis Uddin Ahmed and Ahbab Hossain, Councillors Faruk Mahfuz Ahmed, Abdal Ullah, Asma Islam, Lilu Talukder and Shubo Hossain, as well as former councillors Mamun Rashid and Shad Chowdhury. Also present were Bethnal Green & Stepney CLP Chair Amina Ali, Lansbury Ward Chair Ansarul Haque, Whitechapel Ward Secretary Md Suez Miah, Weavers Ward Secretary Delowar Hossain and former BAME Chair Dr Anisur Rahman Anis.

Members of the UK Bangla Reporters Unity actively engaged in the session, posing questions to the candidate. Among them were Vice Presidents Shaheda Rahman and Jubair Ahmed, Joint Secretary Mirza Abul Kashem, Treasurer Dr Azizul Ambia, Media & IT Secretary A Rahman Oli, former presidents Matiar Chowdhury, Ansar Ahmed Ullah and Shahed Rahman, former Secretary ATM Moniruzzaman, along with Abdul Bashir, Shah Mostafizur Rahman Belal of the London Bangla Press Club, Dr Rezaul Karim Reza of the Royal London Hospital, Ahad Chowdhury Babu, G R Sohel, Imdadun Khan, Abdul Mumin and Shipon Miah.
