“Mamun: In Praise of Shadows” is a full-length documentary that explores Mamun’s unique ability to encapsulate the essence of a nation through his portraits. The film combines cinematic storytelling with still imagery to highlight the emotional depth and philosophical outlook of Mamun’s work, emphasising that “every face tells a story” and showcasing the “quiet power” of his artistry.
The UK Asian Film Festival, one of the longest-standing South Asian film festivals outside India, will celebrate its 2026 theme, “Stories That Bind Us,” focusing on narratives that foster connections across diverse communities, cultures, and generations.
Produced by Makbul Chowdhury of Kolakar Productions Ltd, based in Birmingham, the documentary aims to honour Mamun’s artistic legacy and reflect on the universal power of portraiture within the broader context of storytelling and cultural unity.
