Veteran Bengali journalist Ashoke Gupta dies

London: Veteran journalist Ashoke Gupta passed away on 6 September 2021 in London. At the time of his death, he was 90 years old.
He had worked in several well-known journals and newspapers in India and the UK, including The Unity, Pakistan Observer, Ananda Bazar Patrika, Desher Dak, Bangla Katha, The Asian, Indian Weekly and others.
He lived in Flower & Dean Walk Estate, Banglatown and worked in the Brick Lane area for many years. In his time, he had helped hundreds of people with welfare benefits, Immigration, employment, writing letters, translations and publications. He was popularly known as Ashokda to locals. He also provided artwork, proofreading and printing services to many local community organisations. Ashoke Gupta hailed from Habiganj-Nobigang and left behind a son.
